As a new mom, you're experiencing constant changes—both physically and mentally. Returning to work after having a baby can bring a mix of emotions. At Choose Your Way Therapy, serving Florida, North Carolina, Massachusetts, and Kentucky online, Jaime Masotti, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), is here to help you through all of life's transitions.

Remember, Your Feelings are Valid

Whether you can't wait to get back to the office (which is totally normal) or you're struggling to manage the anxiety of being away from your baby (also totally normal), it's important to remember that you're not alone. You've just gone through one of the most stressful life transitions a person can experience. Try your best not to judge yourself for your feelings—like everyone else, this is your first time being a human, and motherhood is one of the most, if not the most, pivotal experiences of your life.

Take It One Hour at a Time

The idea of going back to the office full-time can be overwhelming, and it can help to break your time into chunks. On your first day (or first few weeks) back, simply take it one hour at a time if taking on the whole day at once feels like too much. Hourly goals can help you stay focused and provide you with a feel-good endorphin rush.

Be Proactive About Getting Support

Returning to work after having a baby is hard, and asking for help is a good idea. When you get the support you need, you're not just a happier person—you're a better mom. Keeping a tight support network of friends and family, working with a therapist, or talking with a coworker who had similar issues can all help you power through your return to the office.
